Speech Language Pathology CF Overview
The clinical fellowship experience (CF) in speech-language pathology is an essential phase for speech-language pathologists (SLPs). At Invo, we are dedicated to assisting clinical fellows in finding fulfilling speech language pathology CF jobs that meet program requirements. Recent graduates are provided with supervised clinical experience, enabling them to further practical skills in diagnosing and treating communication and swallowing disorders.
Upon successful completion of the clinical fellowship, SLPs are awarded the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), which is a nationally recognized credential indicating their proficiency in the field of speech language pathology.
SLP Clinical Fellowship Job Requirements
Mentor setup Provide
services needed to acquire SLP CF jobs and work directly under the supervision
and mentorship of an SLP CCC. It is the clinical fellows' responsibility to
find a mentor and ensure that they have their CCCs, have a minimum of 9 months
of full-time clinical work experience, and have completed a minimum of 2 hours
of professional development in the area of supervision.
👉 Invo
will provide a supervising therapist mentor for you. We take pride in
offering personalized mentoring support and matching SLP clinical fellows with
school-based job opportunities that align with your career goals. We work with
our CFs to ensure a good fit for both the mentor and mentee, not only during
the CF, but also after program completion to support your goals for continued
success.
1260 working hours A
clinical fellow will need to complete a total of 1260 working hours. They also
need a minimum of 36 weeks of full-time work or its part-time equivalent.
👉 Invo
provides the supervision needed to complete the working hour requirement.
Working as an SLP CF for one of our partner schools, full time for the school
year, satisfies the requirements for a CF.
Evaluation of performance The
feedback session is where the CF mentor and clinical fellow discuss strengths
and weaknesses in the CF's clinical skills. ASHA requires performance
feedback at the end of the CF's 36 weeks or 1260 hours. Note: ASHA is no
longer requiring performance feedback with 3 different sessions. The CF mentor
must provide performance feedback at the end of the final segment, and the
clinical fellow must receive a score of "2" or better on all skills
during the final segment on the Clinical Fellowship Skills Inventory. CFs will
then submit the experience on their online application for ASHA.
👉 All work is
evaluated by your Invo appointed mentor for use in application.
